Is GM Cuban?
eligibility for the cintas is “Creative artists, living outside of Cuba, of Cuban citizenship or direct lineage (having a Cuban parent or grandparent).”
i thought he was colombian. his work is way overrated, boorish. he should stick to writing,which he does very well….
I can’t imagine how poor the selection pool must have been to have his work be a winner..
OK. it should be Genaro instead. “Genarito from Cuba”. What’s next for Genaro after the “”Cuban citizenship award”? Havana Biennial? I guess we cannot ask Oscar.

GM – Geneal Mortar
I like the guy. First he is humble, then a determined builder of consensus. Yet, the work is only occasionally humorous or socially relevant, rarely sublime and beautiful. At last one of these qualities ought be apparent, even in an artists early works and certainly by mid-career.
He seems tailor-made for CINTAS – the Convoluted Initiative of Nepotistical and Tyrannical Assimilation Sorority. They deserve each other.
